Teaching

I believe that the purpose of education is to become more whole versions of ourselves. I view the self as a process and one that is interwoven within the broader fabric of existence. As a sociologist, I push my students to learn more about how they do and can enact various social, cultural, political, and environmental worlds and the potential for other ways of doing so. I accomplish this by creating an active classroom environment that highlights a variety of positions on a given topic and linking personal experiences to broader social processes. We collectively investigate these processes through theoretical and empirical readings, as well as examine current events and participate in community activities. Ultimately, I aim for students to become life-long learners and responsible, active community members who value equity, diversity, and the dignity of all peoples.

I have taught classes such as:

  • Sociological Theory

  • Population, Natural Resources, and Environment

  • Environmental Sociology
